		<description>&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/headKvit.png" width="286" height="148" width_o="286" height_o="148" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/headKvit_o.png" data-mid="21015419"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Gignal is a social media aggregation engine, used for displaying content-specific rich media across several platforms.
Events use Gignal to show live social updates on billboards, brands use Gignal to spark conversation and engagement to their product.

Gignal approached me to redesign their entire presence; from a new identity system and website, to on-site displays and social streams, as well as custom implementations for specific cases.

Gignal.com is still in beta, and is at the time of writing still in the process of implementing the new designs. So stay close.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/piksel.png" width="600" height="351" width_o="600" height_o="351" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/piksel_o.png" data-mid="21015192"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
First; the new identity system!
The brief revealed some conundrums; Gignal have a very broad user base, and thus the system has to be likable to almost anyone, and be fun but remain strict.

It also has to be super legible, and fully readable both as a tiny "powered by Gignal" button in the corner, as well as on huge screens in sports arenas.
It needs to be really no-fuss, to let the user clearly go forward without obstruction, but still be interesting enough if you want to hang around for a while.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/logoKvit.png" width="600" height="845" width_o="600" height_o="845" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/logoKvit_o.png" data-mid="21015436"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
The main logotype is derived from seven pixels making a capital G. It is surrounded by a circle representing the signal.
The main logotype is set in DIN, because rock steady is how we roll.
In extended typography we use Open Sans in various styles, a beautiful but delightfully legible typeface designed for the modern web.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/logo_bigKvit.png" width="476" height="481" width_o="476" height_o="481" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/logo_bigKvit_o.png" data-mid="21015463"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/logo_smallKvit.png" width="53" height="22" width_o="53" height_o="22" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/logo_smallKvit_o.png" data-mid="21015466"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
To prove the point; A really big and really small logo.

Managing accounts and setting up events in the website interface can be daunting for some users.
With this in mind, we created a system that lets the user clearly see the task at hand and remain in control, but if you want to stick around, we'll give you something fun to look at.
Based on this, the navigation and main parts of all implementations should be light, friendly and action-focused, while illustrations and colorful imagery plays a supporting role.

And taking a hint from the wonderful Mailchimp, we let some friendly humor through the margins to make an otherwise dull task genuinely enjoyable.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/mainSite_loop.gif" width="600" height="518" width_o="600" height_o="518" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/mainSite_loop_o.gif" data-mid="21015292"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Front page. To illustrate the moving streams, we utilize an awesome "curtains" technique to animate the content ans the user scrolls.

&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/pricing_on_screen_2.png" width="600" height="521" width_o="600" height_o="521" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/pricing_on_screen_2_o.png" data-mid="21015327"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Pricing page. All business, no fuss.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/pricing_screenshot.png" width="600" height="521" width_o="600" height_o="521" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/pricing_screenshot_o.png" data-mid="21015333"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/buttonsKvit.png" width="228" height="126" width_o="228" height_o="126" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/buttonsKvit_o.png" data-mid="21015498"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Prettiest buttons you ever saw.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/stream_big2.png" width="600" height="370" width_o="600" height_o="370" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/stream_big2_o.png" data-mid="21015348"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Social stream for large displays. If Gignal is used at a convention for example.
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/flipboard_style.png" width="481" height="773" width_o="481" height_o="773" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/flipboard_style_o.png" data-mid="21015360"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Website widget example. This large widget monitors your chosen hashtags, profiles or locations and displays them for you. Neat!
&#60;img src="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/roskilde_browser.jpg" width="600" height="467" width_o="600" height_o="467" src_o="http://payload85.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/4014695/roskilde_browser_o.jpg" data-mid="21015363"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Custom implementation for the Roskilde festival website. Which basically means I designed 90% of the front page for the biggest festival in northern Europe. Awesome. Did I mention we got free tickets to the festival?

Audience at the festival, interacting with the LED billboard.

		<description>PAX TANTOR TYPEFACE

This is a typeface that started as an offshoot from an unrelated project, and found life on its own. Like so many things.
I tried to create something that can handle some gentle flourishes, while keeping a rigorous baseline.
It's like your grandfather; steady as a rock, but always ready with a bad joke.

It's not really ready for public consumption just yet, but if you want to licence it, get in touch.

		<description>This is a zine/magazine I made together with Nabovarsel, an organisation for the betterment of electronic music and art. They supplied the content and over-arching idea, I did the visual concept strategy, layout, and basically made the thing.

Articles by Lars Erik Østerbø, Aksel Kielland, Miranda Moen, Anders Gogstad and Kasper Romskip &#38; Planeter, plus art by a number of brilliant artists and the top DJs of Norway deciding their top ten tracks of the last ten years.

I write about the process of making it in this blog post, and we got interwieved by some nice newspaper people over here.

You can also buy it over here!

		<description>&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/head2.jpg" width="600" height="200" width_o="600" height_o="200" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/head2_o.jpg" data-mid="14286412"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

All right, I'll walk you through the entire process. Let's start with some sketches:
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/skisser1.jpg" width="670" height="502" width_o="800" height_o="600" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/skisser1_o.jpg" data-mid="10518862"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Some of the first sketches here. Nabovarsel has a pretty complex theoretical and filosophical backbone to everything they do, so translating all this into a logo and so on can be, put mildly, daunting.
Nabovarsel is a collective of people working within electronic music and art in Bergen, Norway. The first brief I had with them centered around the want to mirror the true side of the city, contrary to the image the munipiciality would like to show, as well as convey the non-conformity, counter-culture, Do-it-yourself-mentality and electronic music and art values of the brand. A typical case of wanting to say a whole lot with very few words.

Anyways, my first sketches ended up in this idea about merging the people, symbolised by the houses, and the city, symbolised by the mountains. Anyways, it didn't end up any good, and looked like a really bad corporate logo from the 90's.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/versj1.jpg" width="670" height="293" width_o="800" height_o="351" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/versj1_o.jpg" data-mid="10518869"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
So I got this idea for a pretty far out N symbol, with a little support by Erik Stokkmo. The N can split up, and become both the N and the V for the logotype. Begging to be animated!
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/slash-skisser.jpg" width="670" height="1108" width_o="800" height_o="1324" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/slash-skisser_o.jpg" data-mid="10518865"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
So this is my conceptual backbone for these forms. The more primitive the base forms are, the more timeless the design will be, I have been taught.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/parts.jpg" width="670" height="324" width_o="800" height_o="387" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/parts_o.jpg" data-mid="10518856"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
But, as it turned out, that didn't work out at all either. I got stuck with this version a long time, working with impossible kerning issues, and various stroke widths, trying to make it work. No go.

Then I had an epiphany while sketching in the good company of Knut Harald Longva, taking the previous N symbol and working it into a circle, which is good for a number of conceptual reasons.

What I'm trying to say is, this idea had something going for it. This could work.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/sirkel-skisser.jpg" width="670" height="991" width_o="800" height_o="1184" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/sirkel-skisser_o.jpg" data-mid="10519084"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
...resulting in the variations seen here. I settled on the most balanced one in the end.
For the colors, I wanted to keep things as minimal as possible. Using simple black and white as a base, with the blue to accentuate and an off-white as a base where applicable worked out really well. This way, we can print in only two colors, which also saves on costs.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/vinkel-pissing.jpg" width="670" height="510" width_o="800" height_o="610" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/vinkel-pissing_o.jpg" data-mid="10518878"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/kunlogo.jpg" width="670" height="554" width_o="800" height_o="662" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/kunlogo_o.jpg" data-mid="10519119"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
And here is the finished version.
The color choice is based on starting with a bank-like "safety blue", and nudging it just the right amount towards a crazy purple. It's bright and energetic, but still means business.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/kort2.jpg" width="670" height="314" width_o="900" height_o="423" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/kort2_o.jpg" data-mid="10519118"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Business cards, silk screened by hand.

And here it is in motion, too!

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/7795512561c0cc5181a5a874799e7e5d.jpg" width="600" height="66" width_o="600" height_o="66" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/7795512561c0cc5181a5a874799e7e5d_o.jpg" data-mid="14286136"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
 After a full year of use, I revisited the identity system, and made an analysis of what worked, and more importantly, what didn't.

This resulted in a new iteration, with these major steps:
consolidate the "full circle" version and the simple "N" version into a more unified form, usable in any size and media
Solidify the form to be more robust, as the hearline of the current version is to frail
Enable a more unified typography, with only one typeface used across the entire system, and a more settled logotype.

First off then, fix the frailty and make the symbol a real heavyweight
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/kunsirkel.jpg" width="600" height="500" width_o="600" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/kunsirkel_o.jpg" data-mid="14286160"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
With this version, the N and the circle share the same width, making it sturdy as a rock.

Then on to find a unified typographic style. The first version used Code bold in the logotype and Archer in additional text, neither of which really brought home the bacon.
So I figured out Neutra text would be awesome, a classy typeface that strikes just the right balance between strict and sassy. It also works beautifully in all sizes, in Demi for display heights, and Book for full paragraphs.
Neutra also employs some really nifty ink traps, which come in handy when printing posters.
As you can see, I have altered the N and V to adher to the 37° cut and unify it with the emblem.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/hovedlogo.jpg" width="600" height="500" width_o="600" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/hovedlogo_o.jpg" data-mid="14286157"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Here's a look at what some proper paragraphs of text looks like:
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/mengdetekst.jpg" width="600" height="666" width_o="600" height_o="666" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/mengdetekst_o.jpg" data-mid="14286167"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
In stamps and watermarks in really small sizes and such, it's still OK to just use the emblem:
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/stempel.jpg" width="168" height="136" width_o="168" height_o="136" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/stempel_o.jpg" data-mid="14286170"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

And there it is! This version is rock solid, conveys the brand through, as well as, if I may say so, looks smashing. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Now for some corny implementation shots. In printed matter, we need to keep the amount of inks down due to printing costs. So it'll be fun to use our main identity color, the disco blue if you will, as the base of some Duotone shots, using the blue instead of black. Like so:
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/bjonnBorder.jpg" width="599" height="269" width_o="599" height_o="269" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/bjonnBorder_o.jpg" data-mid="14286175"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/duotone.jpg" width="600" height="425" width_o="600" height_o="425" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/duotone_o.jpg" data-mid="14286177"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Had to try a 3D implementation, too.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/3d-web2.jpg" width="600" height="370" width_o="600" height_o="370" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/3d-web2_o.jpg" data-mid="14286185"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
A whole new website, a story on its own.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/LedCinemaDisplay.jpg" width="670" height="622" width_o="800" height_o="743" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/LedCinemaDisplay_o.jpg" data-mid="14286190"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
It's a record label after all, it would be a sin not to include a record cover:&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/plate1.jpg" width="540" height="400" width_o="540" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/plate1_o.jpg" data-mid="14286213"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
When I work with other artists and designers that will be using the system, I encourage playfulness and experimentation, within a framework of course.
The color palette in my design manual for example, is quite open for personal interpretation since the base forms are so recognizable.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/color2.jpg" width="670" height="282" width_o="800" height_o="337" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/156632/2110884/color2_o.jpg" data-mid="14286205"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

The Good Advice Project is based on the very simple idea that sharing is caring. It brings people together. And it makes stuff grow. Enough with egoism and skepticism. Let's make the world better, by sharing what we know.
In January 2011, designer Jacob Lysgaard (JA) and photographer Hanne Hvattum (HA) decided to join forces and dive into the fruitful and mystical ocean of collaboration. They formed the creative constellation JAHA, and The Good Advice Project is their first common body of work.

Pictures and text for the project was produced during an intense and interesting Copenhagen week. Strangers were approached on the street with the following question:

Do you have a piece of good advice to offer?

Some said no and ran away. But most said YES, and by being openhearted and sharing they made this project possible. Hooray for them, and for sharing what we've got.
Enjoy the Good Advice.

This is my Bachelor's degree project in design, from the Bergen National academy of the arts.
When writing this, I'm still reeling after my presentation, and the great feedback from my sensors. They thought it was a "really, really good project", and they even used the word "wise".
The project was also selected by the dean to be shown at the annual school year commencement ceremony.
Now, enough tooting of my own horn, this is what it's about:

The problem I wished to attack, was the lack of visual communication in most of today's electronic live acts. The artist usually stands on stage with a laptop, bobbing his head, and that's it.
In acoustic music, even in the worst case scenario, there is at least some element of performance, since the instruments don't play themselves. In electronic music, unfortunately they do.

So how can we bring the performance back into electronic music?

Short answer: I expanded the physical space into a virtual one, and brought back the physicality of the performance through the magic of technology.

Long answer: Watch this video presentation.

If you just want the gist, you should get the idea by watching this short visualization video:

This following video is in many ways the crescendo of the whole project; a working example of one song being played with this system.
Throughout the concert, the visual expressions can change dramatically. But this is how one song can look. The music is one of my own tracks, "Three tails".

		<description>I'm running around Copenhagen with a camera a lot these days. Here are some recent snapshots, as well as some more dated ventures into the ocular realm.

I used to be a dedicated part of the lomographic society, a business that got me featured in a few books on lomography, the SuperSampler showcase book and the Lomographic society international book(curated by urban artist Dalek) in particular.

It's hard for me to do any real quality assessment on much of my photography work, because of its very personal nature. Each of these frames represent important points in my life, I can only hope they resonate with you as well.
