hand bound collection on minds in bodies and motion. Some of the main ideas I wanted to explore through creating this collection were: One’s relationship to and within their surroundings and the constant flux between connection and dissociation with an environment; How people pull vastly different experiences from the same physical data; How beings relate to one another in the midst of their own personal struggles. Each of the books on display highlights a different sort of interaction. One explores the positive and negative of an emotionally immature and anger-driven relationship. Another follows one journey through two distinct interpretations. The last explores a body’s frantic dance within and as a part of its environment, and the wavering between the two states as a fluid existence, separate and unified. I have learned several times over that selfish goals are often perceived as a lack of care for one’s surroundings and fellow beings, when in reality self-centered pursuits are often vital to understanding and coming to love the humanity, however flawed, of oneself and those surrounding. These books are in many ways my own crude maps for emotional and intellectual territories into which I’ve delved. I hope that the words and tactile experience they are enmeshed in communicate an awareness and acceptance of the stumbles and faults in their search for constantly changing personal truths. My ideas may contradict themselves but they embrace the ensuing confusion as an integral part of the ride. I also explore how relationships play into and are sometimes sacrificed for this journey, and how separate pursuits of connection and knowledge can aid or inhibit one another along the way.
