I had the great pleasure of meeting and working with Tad Hills, the author of the New York Times Bestselling children's book How Rocket Learned to Read, a story about Rocket the dog who learns to read with the patient help of a little bird. Other than just converting the story from print to digital format, we wanted to create a fun and interactive iPad app that actually helps kids learn to read, just like Rocket. Playful animations and interactive games implement the full spectrum of the iPad's capabilities, such as tapping Rocket to make him jump and wag his tale, blowing on the screen to make leaves fall off a tree, tilting the iPad to make the bird move, and using a finger to write words in snow. Children have the option of reading the story on their own, or having the story read to them as words are highlighted.
