Kevin Kelly wrote “I’ve become very curious about the maps people have in their minds when they enter the Internet”.
I began by experimenting with different handmade drawing machines as I felt that their prints recreated the feeling of the Internet. I built three different drawing machines; one pen motioned by a pendulum, the other pen moved by a wind sail, and the last pen, a spinning top.
The main aspects of the spinning top pens were to encourage contribution, much like Web 2.0. Members of the tutor group were asked to spin the pens to create a collaborative poster that produced chaotic responses.
Each A1 poster was suspended and presented with a theoretical piece of writing connecting Brownian motion to Web 2.0 and my handmade drawing machines.
