Double Conscious Series
Artist Statement:
Through our dreams, we make contact with a vast, yet elusive side of ourselves. My work utilizes and reflects converging objects found in nature. Drawing inspiration from nature’s paradoxical beauty, I aim to create work that not only stands out for its allure but also for its sensitivity. My work spans the spectrum of slick and simple, to the grotesque. Through writing, drawing and sculpting, I seek to create a dialogue with the natural world while exploring elements of my cultural identity. Using the ceramic process, I try to capture moments of metamorphosis from the characters that inhabit my dreams. I am fascinated by the physical properties of clay as a raw and malleable material. As I work with fragmented narratives, I hope to merge them in order to reflect the different aspects of nature.
