BIMS is a biomorphic kinetic sculpture. We challenge most existing robotic actuators that have non-flexible links and use only rotational or prismatic joints to achieve limited degree of freedom. On the contrary, BIMS has a soft, formless and inflatable body made with polymer that can morph to variable shapes. An Arduino micro-controller is used to read vision signal and control an air compressor for inflating the BIMS sculpture. BIMS interacts with people's motion. A webcam is employed to capture the motion of people and surroundings, and trigger the air compressor. BIMS has been exhibited in Shanghai International Science and Art Exhibition and won the Best Application Achievement Award.
