Poster for annual design conference Symposia
Blood Bank

Australia needs 27,000 blood donations every single week, this is a poster aimed at people's emotions to get them to donate.
Consumerism
The advertising industry spends over $12billion a year on ads targeted to Children. Young Media Australia is a national non-profit, community-based organisation that provides information, advocacy and research on the impact of media on children. I chose to base my poster on this cause because it is something I feel passionate about. I have 6 nephews and 3 nieces, 3 of which I see on a regular basis and have seen first hand how advertising can be the reason for the public tantrums we’ve all seen in shopping centres.
Advertising influences the minds of children and creates a “need” to own the products being advertised. Advertising creates an urge for impulsive buying that is carried though into adulthood. A large number of parents today will give into their child who is throwing a tantrum in public to avoid embarrassment which only fuels the problem. We need to start with the root of the problem and ban advertising that is directed at children who don’t understand that they are being sold something. I created this poster to generate awareness of this problem for parents with young children and direct them to the Young Media website where there is ample research and statistics on the subject.
Type Poster

Solid foundations make for a stable future. From ancient hieroglyphics to hand-drawn manuscript type, through to the invention of letter press printing, typography has evolved significantly over time. In the digital age we now live, typography has fundamentally changed visual communication. Constrictions of grids and manual labour are now a thing of the past, typography today is a tool that is only bound by our imagination. With my poster design I wanted to communicate these ideas. By referring to our typographic past though the use of grids and font names the final message is that my design was only made possible with the aid of a computer. The future of typography is what we make of it. Embrace it.
No Bottled Water

Facts:
• Bottled water does not contain fluorine which strengthens our teeth
• The effects of disposing plastic bottles is catastrophic
• 74% of people surveyed report they spend up to $10 a month on bottled water while around 16% of people spend between $11 and $20 per month
• There are not enough bubblers available to the public and 90% of people don’t know where they’re situated
• Bottled water is simply a fashion statement roaming free of environmental responsibility
• The worldwide packaging for bottled water requires 2.7 million tonnes of plastic each year.
• The NSW department of Environment and Climate Change estimates that about 200millilitres of oil is needed to produce a single one-litre bottle.
• The bottled water industry is licensed to take 1,800megalitres of water from the groundwater system in NSW every year. This can result in exhaustion and depletion of underground aquifers which have a flow on effect of drying out swamps and other water bodies, threatening aquatic plants and animals already under stress from the drying climate.
Positive Poster

"At the height of laughter, the universe is flung into a kaleidoscope of new possibilities."
- Jean Houston
Being able to have a laugh is one of the key elements of an optimistic outlook. In my optimism poster i wanted to refer to the positive idea of the glass half full with a humorous twist. Laughter is positivity and positivity is optimism.
