World Cup Football (or soccer for us Yanks) is the most passionately followed sporting events in the world. Adidas wanted to give fans the opportunity to be part of the competition and go head-to-head with other countries off the pitch.
Enter the Virtual Shootout. Interactive video billboards are placed in high traffic ares of competing countries. Each day your country goes up against a rival in a penalty kick shootout. Fans simply use their mobile phones to cast a vote for which side the kicker will shoot on goal. At the same time, the other country's fans are voting which direction the goalie will attempt to save. When time is up the
shot is taken, then teams switch sides. At the end of the day one team hangs their head in defeat while the other basks in their collective mobile phoning prowess.
