Above is a video posted by Mark Gray of Spacecraft Films and it is about Project Excelsior. Project Excelsior was centered around testing our ability as human beings to do high-altitude parachute jumps. After a few test with dummies, former command pilot, Captain Joseph Kittinger of the United States Air Force started the human testing phase of the project.

The 60's were an amazing time for space exploration. Later, in 1963 Kittinger and astronomer William C. White later manned the Project Stargazer craft, spending some 18 hours doing astronomical observations at 82,200 feet. If you are into this sort of thing, as I am, I highly suggest doing some research. Very interesting information often turns up.

The video above is absolutely amazing to me. I'm having a hard time finding the words to explain how really neat it is. (Obviously since I used the word neat) I just want to know what goes through ones mind for the 13 minutes he was falling. What do you learn about yourself or even the universe as we know it? I'm sure it is a life-altering and beyond beautiful site. Now if I can just get the proper equipment and an iPod that will play M83's Midnight City at high altitude.

Hello there, I'm Matthew Sims and this is my electronic home page.

I just wanted to jot down a few words as to why I started this website and what you may find here in the future. The other night I started a train of thought and this project is what came out of it. I had been using Tumblr as my main blogging platform for a few years now until something dawned on me. Are we taking the "Micro-Blogging" thing too far? Now I enjoy Twitter, it is my go to place for fast passed news and self expression. However it seems as if "Micro-Blogging" your life, feelings, thoughts, and ideas is in a way, cheating.

Don't get me wrong in future years I could go through my old Tumblr and see photographs, gifs and all that good internet stuff, but would I really remember what it was all about? More importantly would my family who wanted to remember the past be able to decipher what any of the mixed media meant? I didn't think so, so I left. I think Tumblr is a great content discovery tool and therefore still use it as such. I'll just take the really great stuff and write a piece on it. Giving a bit more meaning to it.

It has worried me for sometime that my generation will be the one to mess up the recording of events for history books. I hope it isn't the case. I can't help but long for something old, vintage, textured, and real. It seems like the more impersonal we become through digital avenues the more I want to go outside and touch something. However I do not let those longings get in the way of how absolutely amazing technology is. Having a computer is like having a tool that can take you places. Even more so for creatives.

I can't help but to point out a place that I think is doing a great job with magazine and long form posts in our digital space. The Verge being a blinding light in the space. They just launched in November and have already brought a great design and identity to the consumer electronic field. My personal favorite part being their review format that is more often than not, accompanied by a great video feature on the product.

So I hope you stick around and check out some of the projects, artists, and sites I post about. The goal here is to get back to blogging and sharing feelings in a feature like format. If you would like to know more about me, personally, head of to the Information page and if you would like to find me and my friends elsewhere, take a gander at the Internet page.

So until next time - Thank you for reading.
