Growing up with an interest in both art and graphic design – inspired
at an early age by the visual styles of Jim Dine and Rauschenberg as well as
Rodchenko & the Bauhaus – I was trained as a graphic designer & illustrator.
After ten years in the design & media industries – covering interactive design,
user experience, branding and illustration - I have been left with a structured,
considered sense of composition and a strong graphic language.
Taking cues from the design and composition of the urban environment – my work
draws inspiration and influence from architecture, constructivism and the textures
and layered messages that bombard us on a daily basis – whilst challenging what we
term “landscape” in the structured, manmade environments we inhabit.
I have recently moved from painting to three dimensional works - using found
materials which take the geographical nature of my work a step further
by tethering the pieces to more specific locations.
My latest work is taking influence from my experience as an interactive designer,
with moveable, interchangeable elements that encourage a more interactive
experience and involvement of the viewer. This again pushes the landscape nature
of the works through the suggestion that we control, manipulate and customize
our own surroundings to suit our needs and desires.
