- Sixto Rodriguez

Along with Dark Side of the Moon and Abbey Road, Cold Fact by Sioxto Rodriguez was one of the first records I ever layed hands on. With the soundtrack to my fathers life embedded in the grooves I would listen and learn more than my ripe mind could decipher. Now when I listen to his music I can hear the resonance of a true prophet. His lyrics have an omnipresence, as if he has been brought back to earth from a distant all-knowing future. After walking the streets of detroit for most of his life Rodriguez was poached by a producer at an open mic night. Soon after he released two records, Cold Fact and Coming into Reality, both of which depict the harsh political climate of America in the 1960's/70's. Unfortunately, neither record sold until his music resurfaced 30 years later in South Africa and Australia. Perhaps it was the cold facts that deterred America and the rest of the world from truly listening. Regardless of this fact Sixto Rodriguez was a man with a message speaking truth, which is, at the heart of it all the artists only obligation.
