I came across this wonderful image, 5 Whales Stacked, while combing Etsy for photobooth props. I'm a lover of whales, which a number of friends have indulged in the form of photographs and sculptures. (discovered via Danielle Spurge)

A propos: a sad-but-wonderful story about a male whale with a whiney voice that can't find a partner here. (via kottke.org)

Loving these collages by Scott Munson. Throwback, and just slightly over the edge of what might plausibly be a collection 1970s Nestle Tollhouse ads. The titles will make you smile:

1. Winter Treat
2. Minty Stack
3. Peanut Bars on Table
4. Dessert Golf
5. Field of Treats
6. Two Tarts

While in Berlin, I came across a guy cutting up posters on a building wall, folding them down, and painting on their backsides. I watched for a while and then asked what he was doing.

The Berlin-based artist called 6 is one of the world's most prolific street artists. Working since 1995 under many names -- 4rtist, SeX, ﴾͡๏̯͡๏﴿ -- his work is part graffiti, part public education, and part graphic design. He was very kind in sharing his mission and his process.

Music by Mouse on Mars.

Jon Schaefer devoted a week of Soundcheck to the remembering great vanished venues. I caught the episode about New York's epic dance club, Danceteria, a revolutionary spot, open from 1980 - 1986 with three floors, tons of live performances and the first video lounge with live visuals. (They imagined the lounge would be the spot for shy kids to flirt if they were intimidated by the dance floor.)

Danceteria is also where Madonna (who was a club regular) first got on stage. Lo and behold: it was recorded.

The Soundcheck piece is here:
