FOR SCHOOLS

A Door to the Tomb: (K-6) 20 minutes
“Into the Tomb” is a quick, up-on-your-feet pre-exhibit introduction to “Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of Pharaohs” that’s sure to bring out the Indiana Jones in every student.  Every great expedition starts with a great goal - to uncover, to recover or to discover – the journey we take in the “King Tut” exhibit is no different.  Every participant is given background on King Tut’s family, (as they learn a little about their own family trees as well), an introduction to the many wondrous artifacts and hidden treasures to be on the look-out for in the exhibit, and a fun “Seek Your Own Proof” mission sheet from Discovery Kids.

A Gift for the Pharaoh: (Includes A Door to the Tomb activities) (K-6) 40 minutes
“A Gift for the Pharaoh” is a hands-on workshop where students learn the secrets of the Shabtis – Pharaoh’s mysterious guides to the underworld and protectors in the next life.  Shabtis are small statues representing Egyptian gods and deities. The Shabtis found in the tombs of King Tut and his ancestors are some of the most interesting artifacts and most stunning works of art in the exhibit. But more than that, they’re fun. The stories behind these “helpers to the Pharaoh” are sometimes dark, sometimes delightful, but always interesting. After an exciting and informative look at the many Shabtis discovered in our exhibit and their jobs in the afterlife, each student will create their own Shabti to keep or to give to an important “Pharaoh” in his or her own life.

Pharaoh’s Family Feud: (post exhibit) (7-12) 40 minutes
After visiting the exhibit, your students can test their knowledge in this fast paced game of quick reflexes and good memories.  All the information they need to win can be found in the exhibit so be sure they pay close attention and start making lists as they explore the wonders of “Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs”. Remember, the top eight answers are on the board. Show me – fun! A great way to review the themes and lessons of the exhibit in a game show setting that's exciting and entertaining.
