Digital Imagery Studio
This gallery of work was produced in an intermediate level course that focuses on digital painting, compositing and illustration. The overwhelming majority of the students come from the BFA in Entertainment Design and BS in Game Design-Art concentration. In most cases it's their first contact with digital painting. The course starts with a a review of color theory and how it applies to digital platforms. Students work their way through a variety of projects and exercises starting with observational drawings, value studies and limited palette paintings. Students then apply these techniques and theories to the needs of their major, typically creating concept artwork, environment designs, matte paintings and character concepts. The course also introduces photo compositing and students work in a blue screen photo studio with digital cameras and lighting. Students are able to utilize these techniques in their advanced courses in animation, game design and digital cinema.
