インドの朝は早い。午前６時に起きてカーテン（というか布の切れ端？）を開けたらバザールはもう売り物屋と店の支度で活気づいていた。外に出るなりチャイとサモサでさっと朝食を済まし、ニューデリー駅へ向かう。行き先は、ラージャスターン州の州都、別名「ピンク・シティー」と呼ばれるジャイプル。
Early bird catches the worm. When I woke up at 6am, the main bazaar was already bustling with street vendors and shops getting ready for the day. Had a quick chai and samosa and head straight to New Delhi station. Destination: "pink city" Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state.
ラージャスターンはインドの北西に位置する巨大な砂漠地帯。イギリス領インド帝国時代においても当時の藩主の働きにより、直接統治下に置かれた他の都市に比べてもかなりインド的な雰囲気を強く残している。絹・綿織物の染色を初めとした伝統工芸にも恵まれてて文化的にリッチな地域。本当はこの一帯をもっとディープに掘り下げたかったけど今回はお障り程度で。
Rajasthan is a huge desert area in the north west side of India. Thanks to the due diligence of the Maharajs at the time of British empire, Rajasthan was able to retain alot of the ancient Indian values including beautiful hand crafts such as silk and cotton dying tradition. I really wanted to explore this region in depth but life of a drifter ain't easy; gotta keep on drifting!
ジャイプルから車で３０分ほど行ったところの丘の上にそびえ立つアンバー城を見に行った。ヒンディーとムガルのアートが融合した装飾と鮮やかな色に完璧ノックアウトされた。特に植物や花をモチーフにしたパターンが素晴らしく現代にも通用するクリーンなセンスだ。昔チビまるこちゃんによくのってたインドのエキゾチックで幻想的な描写が今目の前に広がった。
About 30min from the city of Jaipur stands the magnificent Amer Palace up on the hills overlooking the city. A true mastery of merging opposite cultures, this castle represents a blend of Hindu and Mugal aesthetic with its beautiful ornaments and a tasty color palette. Inspiration!
北の地方はムガル帝国や中東の影響が強く、人々の顔もその歴史を物語る。顔が整ってる人が多くラージャスタンの色鮮やかさに加えみんな実に絵になる。
You can really see the trace of history on people's face. The mix with the middle eastern and mugal race in this northern region is apparent on their beautiful features.
夜はジャイプルに戻り「風の宮殿」を拝めながら異国の夜は更けて行くのであった。。
The view of the "wind palace" was a perfect company to a cold beer to end a exotic night in this desert city.
