THE GHOST THAT CARRIED US AWAY
Hollavallagardur Cemetery
An exceptionally beautiful cemetery in downtown Reykjavík, consecrated in 1838 (nobody wanted to bury their relatives there for a superstition that the first person buried would not rest in peace, but become a “custodian” of the graveyard) and that first person was a woman. The name of the oldest cemetery in Reykjavík, means “garden on a hill” in Icelandic.
Between the streets: Ljósvallagata, Kirkjugarðsstigur, Sólvallagata and Suðurgata, 101 Reykjavík
