Chicago 2K11I wanted to showcase the vibrant city of Chicago and capture the duality that a lot of people are unaware of. When people come from elsewhere, they have this idealized image of the city as fast-paced and full of energy—so it almost becomes this magical place, where once someone crosses the city limits, everything changes. The city is just as busy during the day, but that's the reality of it—garbage trucks and people heading to an office for work. But when people dream of a big city like Chicago, New York or LA, they think of the city at night. I tried to illustrate this with the pacing and sound, so as soon as the city footage appears, the tempo picks up. I also wanted to make a smooth transition from rural to city using color as well as the footage line-up. All footage was shot using the Sony Bloggie or iPhone 4s at 1080p HD.
