[About John Xavier Designs]

As a fifth year Architecture Student, with a minor in Multimedia and Visualization, I have five years of experience invested into the design process, both architectural and Interiors concentrated. I have completed a summer internship at the Philadelphia based Architecture firm Erdy McHenry. Currently I am employed in the Walt Disney Company as a seasonal cast member.

My education in school has concentrated on a wide variety of design problems on a variety of different scales. From a residential row home project in Philadelphia, to a high rise housing complex for the homeless community and everywhere in between. My capstone Digital Methodologies Design X studio is focusing on the aspect of architecture that not many get to experience, Interactive Architecture, using programming, arduino, grasshopper, and money editor. I have developed a prototype for an interior ceiling installation called Bloom.3 which is a motion activated suspended sculpture that is activated by the human interaction, causing it to bloom out from its original state revealing a multitude of colors.

Although I have a strong background in the field of architecture, I also have a passion for the Interior Environment. The constant integration of architecture and the interior design has been a large concentration of mine since day 1. A project my group and I have proposed in the fall of 2011 titled the Nicetown Center for urban Redevelopment shows this affinity of mine showing a great deal of design to the interior of the building. From choosing floor finished and paint colors to light fixtures and furniture, this project gained us recognition in the Philadelphia Center of Architecture in their annual "Green Urban and Glocal" exhibition from February 6th, 2012 to March 7th, 2012.

The internship I have completed at Erdy McHenry was one that taught me a lot about how a firm works, from design development to the actual building process. I aided the firm in the development of a three-dimensional site model on the computer using the program Micro GDS, as well as organized drawing sets and assembled project booklets. http://www.em-arc.com/

I am comfortable working as part of a team and I have the ability to take an authoritative and independent role. From working individually, and in a 4 member group, I find each a rewarding experience. Completing team-based comprehensive projects both as an intern and as a student, as well as projects designed individually in studio, demonstrates that I have the ability to work within a collaborative or solo environment.

Accepted into the New York School Of Interior Design's Post Professional Masters of Fine Arts program for 2012-2014, I am furthering my education and design skills in Interior Design.
