Seven Seas
the brief Redesign a personal care product in a breakthrough way.

solution To revive and add clarity to the Seven Seas visual identity and its Cod Liver Oil
tablet range.

the seven seas brand story Seven Seas is the original Cod Liver Oil manufacturer. The company was formed in the 1930s by a consortium of Hull trawler owners who had grown up knowing Cod Liver Oil’s health reputation and saw the market potential. In the years since then, Seven Seas has expanded from a small local co-operative to a company recognised the world over.

Today Seven Seas is the leading health supplement brand not only in the UK and Ireland but in the Middle East, Africa, Caribbean and the Far East.

good natural health Despite successful diversification in recent years, Cod Liver Oil is still Seven Seas’ core product. As a rich natural source of the most effective type of Omega-3 fatty acids sales of Cod Liver Oil have paralleled the phenomenal growth of Omega-3 popularity.

brand problem Although a well trusted and respected brand popular primarily amongst health consious adults, research revealed that Seven Sea’s Cod Liver Oil range identity is majorly cluttered and inconsistant across its uninspiring packaging. Many consumers found this made it difficult to distinguish between the products in the range and read the information.

As well as appearing dated, the Seven Seas brand identity itself was inconsistant, with a variety of logos and bland typefaces that lacked character. This made the brand appear less credible.

process Research uncovered a rich brand heritage leading to visual research of picturesque fishing sunsets, health and wellbeing. For the logo brand’s qualities needed to be re-presented in a clear, eyecatching way. The seven-rayed sunrise was revamped due to it’s lively qualities and reference to the brand’s fishing story. The logotype’s curved features has reference to traditional fishing fonts while conveying a frendly, modern image.

The packaging was stripped of the ‘clutter’. The range was unified by an iconic wave representation and the type hierarchy was worked on to ensure the relevant product information could be read instantly and easily, making it stand out from it’s competitors.

The bottle shape itself is inspired by a fish while still conveying the more traditional hardwearing image of Cod Liver Oil.

One comment that came up amongst consumers was that it would be good to see how big the tablets were before purchasing. This is solved by making the bottle transparent, revealing the tablets inside.
