My name Hana means one in Korean. One is seen as a unity and at the same time, it contains diverse meanings. I pursue unity in diversity as a graphic designer. My approach to every project is equally important, but with unique and independent values and messages. Through my portfolio book, I want to show my ideas and perspectives that reflect my passion and enthusiasm for creative design.

Hana is a recent graduate from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a bachelor's degree in graphic design and she specializes in package design, identity, and print. Hana is open to hearing about potential opportunities.

Health on Earth

Objective
Create a new brand image and a line of pharmaceutical products for the Johnson & Johnson brand.

Solution
The choice of what pharmaceuticals was left to us. Being an allergy sufferer, I began to research this and found that many allegies and skin conditions are both plagues of modern industrialized nations. After visiting a doctor, doing market research, and reading many articles on environmentally caused allergies and skin problems, I created a line products that were friendly to the consumer and the ecosystem. They were made of recycled materials yet had a bright appearance. The idea was to elevate the brand by promoting natural ingredients within a refreshing package design. The name that best fit these qualities became the name of this new line, Remedy.

An Oldie but a Goodie

Objective
Develop a new brand expression for Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) by creating a paint line extension.

Solution
In creating this line of paints for OSH, I wanted to develop the value of the OSH paint brand and bring a sense of Americana by using multiple layers, a rustic texture, classic typefaces, and old style tin cans. A new brand logo was designed to enrich the brand essence and express its philosophy. The challenging part of this project was to research the paint market and understand this aspect of American culture.

Flight of Fancy

Objective
Design a birdhouse and a birdfeeder out of recycled materials and develop a new brand image with a clear message about sustainability.

Solution
‘Unique and functional’ were the main key words that provided the inspiration for this project. For the
brand Crate & Barrel 2 (CB2), I wanted to design a creative birdhouse that has functional and aesthetic qualities. Inspired by the contemporary and simple furniture design and lively colors of CB2, I created the ‘Bird bags’ brand, and built it by using used and recycled items, such as a frame, floor sheet, wood pieces, and plastics. The geometric forms and the accent frames of the birdhouse give a modern, and friendly feeling. This project was unexpected and fun for me to work on because there were a lot of possibilities that I never imagined, but I could find innovative solutions from unlikely sources around me.

Light Along the Journey

Objective
Design a lamp design and a compelling package, exploring new and unique packaging structures.

Solution
This project gave me an opportunity to not only design a lamp for Samsonite, but take part in a collaborative process that further expanded my knowledge, enthusiasm, and abilities towards design in general. With maintaining the strong brand recognition of Samsonite as a luggage brand, I decided to design a travel lamp that is portable, functional, and stylish. The colors and pattern of the lamp were derived from the brand appearance to represent its quality and personality. The linear shape of the lamp was motivated by contemporary architecture and the iconic Samsonite suitcase.
