Yooper Shirts is a division of Graphics by Designers, owned/operated (solely) by artist/designer Jeremy “Syms” Symons of Ishpeming, Michigan. With nearly 15 years of design experience, Symons created Yooper Shirts with its first release in December 2009 entitled “sUPernatural”.
The next release was the “YOOPER ICON” shirt (to-date it’s YS top selling design) and practically gave birth to Yooper Shirts. Renee Prusi of The Mining Journal wrote: “From a distance, the shirt looks like a blue Upper Peninsula silhouette on a black background. In a closer view, it's clear that the U.P. is actually made up of scores of tiny shapes ... fish, animals, trees and other symbols one associates with the area.”
With success from the “sUPernatural” and “YOOPER ICON” shirts, Yooper Shirts was able to grow and offer more designs in a variety of colors. From there, the word spread and retail outlets throughout the U.P. began stocking them in their stores (view Locations). In November 2010, YS teamed up with Aaron Yunker (Hoodie Master) to add hoodies to our catalog. In April 2011, we added a Kids Line and opened a retail location in West Ishpeming.
Having shipped to over 40 States in the U.S., we continue to expand our line by adding new products with a Womens Line set for the Summer of 2011. Hats, more jewelry, and a variety of other speciality items will all soon follow.
