about julie

I am a communication artist (a graphic designer who writes, too) based in Alberta, Canada. I specialize in communication that is simple, positive and fresh. I like slow, quiet mornings when I can eat fruit and homemade granola, read my Bible and watch the way the sunlight hits my kitchen. A few of my other interests are children, warm weather, guitar, photography, daydreams, travel, BBC's Day in Pictures, family and friends.

I chose to title my web home "good morning" because I feel it captures the essence of my work. As simple as it is, a cheerful "Good morning!" can be the difference between a positive day and a bad day. People who start the day with "Good morning!" have made my life a better place.

During my growing up years, my dad constantly reminded us to say "Good morning" to one another. I didn't understand why it was so important to him. But after leaving home, I began to understand. This world can be a cold, impersonal place. Saying "Good morning!" makes the city seem a little smaller and creates a positive connection.

A communication quote from one of my favourite books:
"Because our communication largely takes place in the inconsequential moments of everyday life, it is easy to underestimate its significance... What sets the course of a person's life are the ways he responds to the little moments...Every day, your words give your relationships their tone."
—Tripp/Lane, Relationships: A Mess Worth Making, p69

Currently I am employed at a commercial printer.
I accept a limited number of new projects on the side.

about working with julie
As each project is unique, I do not have a standard price list. The usual steps in a project look something like this:
• You provide me with information about what you need to communicate. This consultation can be done in person, by phone or by e-mail.
• I will provide pricing for project options that suit your needs.
• A 50% deposit and your signature on a contract will be expected before I begin your project.
• In most cases a concept will be provided for feedback and approval before the entire project is designed. Two rounds of fairly minor changes are included in the original quote. Extensive changes or more than three rounds of changes will incur an extra charge. Proofs will be provided digitally (PDF) or in printed form.
• The final payment will be due before you receive the final digital files (if this is the final state of your project) or when the job is sent to print.
• Your printed pieces will be mailed by Canada Post. Shipping costs are generally included in your initial quote.

about custom wedding stationery
An approximate time line for wedding stationery is about one month from when all the invitation information is received to when your printed pieces are ready. This is assuming that extensive changes are not required, and does not taking shipping into account. Contact me for a wedding stationery questionnaire so that we can discuss specific pricing and time lines.

about custom baby announcements
Contact me for pricing for one or multiple copies of your custom baby announcement, in any size.

I look forward to helping you communicate your positive message!
