The project focus on a user-centered, functional design artifact. In this specific case, a book which content is the history that shaped my favorite bands debut album, De-Loused in the Comatorium.
The reason why I focused on this is because nowadays the sound files are very easily found online, and consequently disposable. People today want to possess tangible and collectable symbols. Therefore my goal was to create an artifact that is durable and resistant. Something that adds value to the music itself and counteracts the loss physicality in the music industry. And what better than a book as a physical object?
I’ve realized that tangibility still adds quite an amount of value to any music release. So why not take it to another level in terms of format and experience? There’s also the “collectivism” aspect of buying physical artifacts that still makes the purchase of physical media a necessity for some. The fact that there’s more to that release than the music itself makes people want to own everything that’s related to it in order to fully appreciate the album. Especially when the history I propose to create in book form, is nothing more than the foundation for the album.
