$50? – New York City
The New York exhibition for the $50 Campaign asked New Yorkers the same question I had asked the Ugandan kids, what would you buy with $50? In a city like New York and at an economic turning point as of right now, the question raised many thoughts on the value of money. The exhibition also gave people a chance to see all of the drawings and portraits in person, and build an emotional connection with the Ugandan kids.
Following the exhibition closing, I spent a week to deliver each drawing/portrait sold to the New Yorkers at their addresses. This allowed me to create a visual comparison to the kids in Uganda.
The exhibition ran from March 23 to April 1, 2010 in Tribeca, New York City. Guest attendees included the Ugandan Mission to the United Nations and The American Ugandan Association of Greater New York.
I put together the exhibition with sponsorship and volunteer help from Givology.
Exhibition design collaboration with Joanne Chew.
Opening night photographs by Jan Remetir.
