In association with CONVERSE we helped to curate Converse ‘Open Studio’. This project presents a rare opportunity to witness creativity being unleashed, an exciting new platform for next generation creative talent with pop-up art studios showcasing the creative process in-motion.

Taking place from May 16 – 18 during Art Basel Hong Kong 2014 at The Space in Sheung Wan, the project lends an environment where guests can observe the artists at work or interact with the artists for a more intimate experience.

For ‘Open Studio’, Converse handpicked a diverse range of inspiring artists from around the world - Above (USA), Caratoes (BEL), Cody Hudson (USA), Mark Goss (UK), Peter Yuill (CAN), and Richard Colman (USA) – who are all creating art pieces from scratch throughout the week, demonstrating their individual methods of creativity.

The artists will also put their personal mark on the iconic Chuck Taylor sneakers and other objects to be displayed in a dedicated exhibition space with their completed pieces. A specially designated Hangout area will also be in place for guests to mingle and relax with refreshments and to view real time updates of the artists and special insider videos from the artists themselves.

In addition, interactive workshops held throughout the weekend invite the public to explore their own creativity by working with artists one-on-one and experiencing art firsthand. As a core value to support local culture and affect positive change, Converse offers creative platforms for the public that are intended to be both inspirational and educational. In particular, inspiring creativity in the youth is an encouraging reminder that art goes beyond galleries and exhibitions, but rather a worthwhile journey.

Designed to create a unique inside-look of an artist’s workspace and creative process, Converse ‘Open Studio’ aims to inspire and curate an exhibit that is synonymous with true artistic creativity and merit.

The Fiend Projects Art Festival was our first major project. In January 2012, we took over the Designcenter de Winkelhaak exhibition space with our art festival.

Throughout the 3 weeks that the event is on there was exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, film showings, artist talks and more, all designed to expose young up and coming artists and to engage the people of Antwerp in an art extravaganza!

Fiend Projects and WeSC presents selected works by Olivier Vrancken & Mark Goss, the first in a series of exhibitions in the WeSC Antwerp store.

Olivier Vrancken (BE/NL)
After having lived through a career of freelance graphic design, Olivier Vrancken decided to put down the digital tools. He returned to his passion, expressing his personal visual language by painting and drawing. Now turning to the use of acrylics and ink on canvas and paper.

Mark Goss (UK/BE)
After graduating with a degree in graphic design Mark moved in a slightly different direction to pursue illustration and his own personal artwork. Focusing on creating bold, graphic imagery on paper, found objects and walls.

For our second collaboration exhibition with WeSC Antwerp we are presenting the illustrative artwork and installations of two Antwerp locals, Toy Factory and Jan Werkt.

Toy Factory is Sam De Buysscher's way of re-creating the feel and ambiance of an old Antwerp (Belgium) based industry. Advertising posters and toys recovered from the dusty warehouse will be transformed into contemporary objects and posters. Toy Factory uses bright and strong colours, fifties design and a lot of humour. The power of these colourful creations lies in the strong character that they represent as a collection. Never the less they also look well as stand alone objects and designs. Toy Factory has been growing rapidly since 2003. New posters, toys and funny designs just keep appearing ever since..

Jan Werkt (translates as Jan Works) looks like a folk singer, works as an illustrator and thinks like an engineer. He creates geometric characters that populate isometric worlds, made out of coloured paper or reclaimed materials. They reveal his interest in far away galaxies and rare ice cream variations.
