Flux Aeterna
I researched on the relation between science and constructivism, taking data and visualizations from LOFAR as a starting point. LOFAR is currently the most powerful array of radio-telescopes, with a resolution that allows to extrapolate the state of the universe 10 billion years ago.
This data was algorithmically shaped into alternative 3-dimensional visualizations from which I shaped material prototypical objects, called 'manifolds'. The basic generative rulesets were bended to my aesthetic biases, as I perceived it was previously being done in the scientific method as well. The 'manifolds' were exhibited at the 'Fabrica features' gallery in Lisbon between 03/04 - 26/04/2008.
Inspired by the visual likeness to Paul Virilios 'Bunker Archeology' photographs, I went on and fused one data-driven object in a vast mining landscape, pictured by photographer Heiner Schilling (produced as lambda-print on diasec, 135cm*115cm).
Other in-between findings appeared in form of small realtime-applications for audiovisual concerts, from which one later became my project on the Altars Of Science. In an audiovisual nocturne at the Academy of Media Arts I showed videoprojections of my material in relation with Bruno Tauts 'Alpine Architecture', wich was another constitutive influence on Flux Aeterna.
Facing that I was finally not producing obviously subjective alternative visualizations, as I initially intended, but legitimate self-evident icons instead, I then directed my work onto myself. So it came that the final part of Flux Aeterna was a marginally data-sculpted chair, or rather throne, that I designed for me to sit on - representing a kingdom of well-meaning but failing iconoclasts. Needless to say that it turned out not to be a very comfortable or even good-looking throne.
