My only book by Hoffmann (beautiful yellow reclam edition) had to be ripped apart in order to make this design.

"HOFFMANN is a multimedia dance piece portraying the life of the author, Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann. The production contains elements from Andrej Tarkowskij’s film script, “Hoffmanniana,” a project which was never realized as a film. The life of E.T.A. Hoffmann is conveyed through a continuous stream of life changes, understood through the clashing of instruments against death.The author, the artist, the director, and the composer construct a dynamic presentation where the audience is invited to witness the tension between choreography, digital projections, and sound - a (sur)real journey. The core motivation of this production is the evolution, separation, and finally the completion of the character that is Hoffmann."
