ECHELON SOFTWARE


I worked at Echelon Software for about a year developing concepts for one of their Unreal3 engine first person shooters. My duties there ranged from environmental design, weapon/prop design to character design.



After 5 years of playing Marathon and uncountable after hours/weekend meetings spanning coffee shops, Barnes and Nobles, and a variety of Thai restaurants in and around the NYC metro area, we finally figured out what our hook could be in the gaming world.

What if you built a game around a social network. And with that, what had started out as a UT2004 mod run out of an apartment in Hoboken NJ turned into something much bigger. We quit our day jobs and started living "the dream".

Driven by a vision of the next 20 years conceived over a decade of research, interviews and training with various special operations contractors, the world of Black Powder | Red Earth is a cynical bleeding-edge gray area grounded in projections of the intrigues, technology and politics of today.

The game has grown organically into areas the creators never expected. With a graphic novel, a Facebook role playing game, a fictional documentary and a strategy game in addition to the Unreal Engine 3 based FPS all in the works, Echelon never has idle hands.
