Marloes Interview
Marloes Veldhuizen gave me the chance to interview her. Here it goes...
Describe who you are and what you do -
(One sentence or 140 characters? :) ) I'm Marloes Veldhuizen, better known as @marlooz or Marlooz on the web, a 29 year old videographer and social media consultant from Amsterdam.
What got you into social media and the internet? -
I discovered the internet thanks to my dad in 1994 and had my first website when I was 18. That was my way of keeping in contact with friends in the States. So most of my life has been on the web for a while now. I just love interacting and communicating with different people all over the world and the internet and social media has made that so much easier. So I guess I my answer is my dad, Hans Veldhuizen, he was also the one who made me tweet almost three years ago, and now our whole family is on there...
Favourite website that you check every day? -
First thing I do is check http://twitter.com/replies to see who has been talking to me when I was asleep. Basically that is all I need to get my day started. I get all the news, fun facts, new interesting sites, leads, updates from friends, etc., all through Twitter. I also check http://mashable.com, http://dutchcowgirls.nl, http://techfluff.tv and http://facebook.com daily...
Favourite pastime away from the computer? -
Away from the computer? Hmm, I love to travel and take pictures/videos. I just spend a month in Berlin for a job and it was amazing. For my next job I would love to go back to San Francisco, I love the Bay Area. But even when I'm away from my computer I'm always connected and I document most of what I do with my iPhone and send it to http://mobypicture.com so I can still share whatever I'm doing on every social site I'm connected to. Sharing the beautiful, weird, funny, awkward, extraordinary things I see, is maybe my favorite pastime. I also enjoy reading and watching TV. I had insomnia for almost seven years and I think I've seen almost every show there is.
Any tips you would give to someone who is looking to get into old media? -
Try to help them make the transition to new media easier and show them there is nothing to be scared of.
Any tips you would give to someone who is looking to get into new media?-
Express YOURSELF, don't pretend you are somebody you're not. I've noticed that I am more myself online than anywhere else. Find your own passion and interests and become the expert in your field. And the most important thing ENGAGE with your audience. Don't just broadcast stuff, interact, and respond.
Finally, Mac or PC?
Mac, never worked with a PC until they forced me at university. I hated it...
