Fred Jacksier-chasen and I developed a chance-based walking system. Using a (Nokia N80) mobile device, the system takes a stock of your choosing and the street name of the intersection you're standing at and then gives you one of three directions to walk: left, straight, or right.


With Fabian Wagmister advising us, our intention was to create a system that would generate detours within and around our day-to-day habits. The first chance-based walk started in downtown LA with Mircosoft as our chosen stock. As the walk went on it eventually led us into the nearby housing projects. Spiraling in circles, following the system instructions we would have never left the housing projects. Many walks followed the first, the project flourished on lazy weekends.
