So, here we are again with ME GUSTA. We are committed to loving what we love so we decided to have a chat with them so we can all get to know them better. They will also be featured in issue 6 of DUST & DESSERT so watch out for that if you love Me Gusta!

001. Who is Me Gusta? Just you two? Really? And you are 19?

Sean Paul: Me Gusta is myself, Sean Paul Richards, & my best friend Dominic Lopez. Yes, its really just us two (no secret society behind us), and we are definitely 19, about to turn 20. That makes us about to be 40 combined though, so that's a lot of experience. ha.

002. How did this all start?

Dominic: This all started in my front yard & slowly moved to the dining room, where our first few songs were made.
Sean Paul: Dominic basically asked me if I wanted to learn how to make beats with him, and it went from there. We had a pretty dead (about to die) iMac hooked up to this xPlod boombox via the computer's headphone jack and that's all we really needed. From there, we made a Myspace and started coming out with tracks on a regular basis. The rest is history...

003. What else do you guys do apart from make music?

Dominic: Solicit women, rob thrift stores, purple drugs (including lean), & then there's the friendly stuff… Riding bikes, actually spending money on clothes, shoes…
Sean Paul: Yeah, we do a lot of other things, like Dominic said. ha. We play video games, draw little things, hunt for clothes, watch movies on VHS and LaserDisk, search for vinyl, and hang out with friends. I also personally study graphic design, do a lot of photography, and have recently started getting into video. We're a creative bunch.

004. Where do you see this going? Where do you want it to go?

Sean Paul: I see Me Gusta staying on current course and moving towards positive ground. We've been working on our music for almost 3 years now, and we hope to continue making new things. With that, though, we're also trying to come together with new focus and work on a lot of new projects. We're planning on coming out with a brand new self-release, working with other artists, making physical products (t-shirts, stickers, cds, other secret items, etc) & trying to finally get live and do shows. Overall, we're doing really well right now and are coming with a new vigor towards everything. There's no telling exactly where things will go, but we're going to keep doing what we do well and making the best of our future in both music and our entire lives.
Dominic: All of the above! lol.

005. Got any wild stories?

Sean Paul: Where the Wild Things Are is a pretty wild story.
Dominic: Call of the Wild by Jack London. Seriously though, one time I got kidnapped by this guy, but then a Me Gusta song came up on his shuffle and the slap from the song popped the trunk open. I was 5 years old, but I escaped Scott Free.
Sean Paul: Our whole life is a wild story...

006. What would you say has influenced you most? Any other artists? Weird life experiences?

Dominic: 90s Hip-Hop (East Coast mostly). As for artists, DJ Premier, Dilla, Madlib, Isaac Hayes, Frank Zappa, Flying Lotus, RZA, and a lot more.
Sean Paul: For me, I've personally been influenced by a lot of musicians, but further than that, philosophers, visual artists, and how sound works. Poems, early life experiences, and the idea of memory really influence me. A lot of my work relates to memory, and the way in which we relate experiences through what we're able to remember. On another plane, hood mixtapes, house music, tribal ideals, ancient societies, patterns, wild animals, bicycle riding, and 160 BPM.

007. Do you think Rihanna would like your remix of her song? We like it a lot.

Sean Paul: Thanks for the props on our remix. As for Rihanna, I honestly have no idea. I don't know much about Rihanna's person or what she likes, so I can't be sure. It would be great if she enjoyed it, but if she didn't then it wouldn't bother me at all. We didn't make it for her. We made it for ourselves & our fans.
Dominic: I think she listens to it when she's home alone to remind her of us...

008. What can people do if they fall in love with Me Gusta? Where do we find you?

Sean Paul: If you fall in love with us, there's not much you can do. It's actually too late for you & you'll be a fan for the rest of your life. You'll probably start obsessing really hardcore and checking our Facebook page every minute of every day until your internet dies and you start throwing things violently. haha.
Dominic: Make a shrine similar to Helga Pataki's and yeah…that's pretty much it.
Sean Paul: On a more serious note, if you fall in love with Me Gusta, please let us know on our Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Tumblr, or Myspace. We're all over the internet and very approachable guys. We love what we do and the people that support us so heavily. Please hit us up and tell your friends to do the same!

009: Any last words?
Dominic: Just want to give a shout out to Seven Trees, Greenpark, and BV Block. (Not Cottle)
Sean Paul: Shout outs to the same places Dominic just said. We would be nothing without our community! $$$

On another note, Thanks to everyone who supports Me Gusta music. If you've been with us since Liu Kang & Megadrive, we give you huge props, and if you're a new fan, we love you just as much. Thank you so much for having our backs and encouraging us to continue doing what we do. You mean more to us than you'll ever know.

New music is coming soon in the form of a self-release, and a new track is slated for release on the weekend of December 18th!

Stay posted, keep listening, and let your friends know about us.

Thanks again!
