Subjective Memories

Physical Computing and Interaction Design

Concept

‘Subjective Memories’ was an art project in which we created an interface through a table of random objects, sensors, arduino and video. When individually picked up, each object triggered it’s own ‘embedded memory’ that would display on an old television. Picking up one or multiple objects triggered each object’s corresponding memory to play on the TV. As additional objects were picked up, it’s video (embedded memory) would overlap and interrupt one another, leaving the viewer to fill in the gaps of the story with their own interpretations and judgments. These juxtapositions of ‘memories’ were intended to create an infinite combination of impressions. In this way we wanted to challenge notions of perception and judgement through the use of ambiguity, videos, and objects that serve as objective witnesses into the lives of two people who live in cohabitation.

Several objects picked up at once triggers simultaneously interrupting videos.
