Concept

Travel Guru was a concept developed as a part of a Brainstorming and Concept Development class. The main objective of the project was to come up with an idea for an app that would be used with a smart phone in the context of traveling on a train. In developing our idea, we considered the limitations unique to train travel and came up with a product that challenged those limitations.

With that in mind we came up with Travel Guru, an app designed to provide a new and adventurous way of traveling by allowing spontaneity in travel. Targeted towards backpackers, our app offers an alternative for those who yearn for a different way to travel. Part travel guide, part concierge service, part social networking tool–Travel Guru works with your built in GPS to determine where you are on a particular route and notifies you of upcoming points of interest where you can choose to disembark or continue forth on your journey. By inputting the parameters of your trip such as time, distance, budget, and interests, Travel Guru creates a customised itinerary for you on the fly.

Additionally, Travel Guru allows travelers to connect with other Travel Guru users through check-in points as well as offering a blogging tool for posting images, stories and comments allowing family and friends to follow along with you on your travels. In this way, Travel Guru allows for a highly social experience minimising moments of loneliness often associated with long periods of solitary travel.
