Analysis
Introduction
To demonstrate my experience with the ISD process, I am featuring the instruction developed for Piano Tabs. Piano tabs are iconic symbols which I designed and are used for learning piano chords. From Analysis to Evaluation you will see the process that I used to create the paper-based and interactive instruction for piano tabs. Click the other boxes to see design, develop, implement, and evaluation processes.

Instructional goal
The first step of design was to determine what skills and information the learners should master by the end of the instruction, expressed as a goal. Our instructional goal was the following:
"Given a page of sheet music, learners will recognize a series of piano tabs placed within a piece of music and correctly identify the corresponding keys on the keyboard and the correct timing that should be played for each chord."
Instructional, Learner, Context Analysis
The next step, after determining the instructional goal, was to identify step by step what the learners would be doing as they perform the goal. Subskills that are needed for mastery are also considered. Additional analysis of the learner's characteristics, the context where the learning will take place, and the context where the learning will be performed is completed.
In the analysis phase of the Piano Tabs design, we divided the learning objective into 12 main skills with associated sub-skills. Main skills are completed when the sub-skills that are associated with it are completed. This type of analysis informed our later design of assessment items.
We also completed a learner analysis in which we detailed learner characteristics such as entry behaviors, prior knowledge, attitudes, motivation etc.
Finally, we analyzed the performance context, or the environment in which the learners will be applying their learning.
