Penultimater is a mobile version of an exquisite corpse, a turn-based game in which a player is given only the last line written in a story and has to write the next. The lines are then read as a single story.

Penultimater players subscribe by texting keyword “line” to 41411. They are then in the queue of players which are chosen at random intervals to receive the final line in the story via sms. Once they receive the line, they have a 5 minute time frame in which to reply, or the turn is given to the next player.

I’m fascinated by how storytelling is going to change with the new formats available online. I like to experiment with taking the same piece and converting it to an online format to see if it reads differently, so I took the classic story “Flowers for Algernon” which is written as a journal and re-formatted it as a blog.
