Music Lyric Typographic Poster for There & Here Blog Guest Series
Brief: Design a typographic poster of a song lyric (1 line) from a singer or band from your country.
Oh poi, our love...
Oh poi ...binds.
Poi.... my poi, yeah!
Poi E, performed by Patea Maori Club is a true kiwi classic. The song was originally written in 1982 to reconnect Maori youth to their roots and is effectively about being proud to be Maori. It became a hit in 1984 with 22 weeks on the NZ charts. Recently the song has had a revival courteous of Taika Waititi’s hit film Boy and is now being played in the rugby stadium when the All Blacks score a try.

What I love about Devonport is I can call it my wā kainga (home).
I’ve designed a typographic poster that highlights and locates the essence of what makes Devonport my favourite place. The poster is bilingual, in light of Matariki (Maori New Year) and recent research into my iwi and genealogy. As much as I love to travel and have been to some amazing places, there really is no place like home. I’ve been fortunate to call this small maritime village my home for the past six years, when my musician partner joined the Navy. Devonport is a creative hub with a great community vibe that is strengthened by the presence of the Navy. I’m very lucky to be surrounded by beaches, history and art, and get a great coffee or wine!
