Biography
Cooper Smith wears many hats, quite literally. For the past five years, he's been on a quest to visit every Major League Baseball, visiting 28 stadiums around the country and collecting a hat each time he does so. But for the past two years, Cooper has put this quest on the back burner to pursue his masters of fine arts in interaction design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
When Cooper entered SVAixd in fall of 2010, he believed the practice of interaction design to be defining how people interacted with technology. In his two years at school, however, he's evolved his definition to understand interaction design as designing and building the communication of indivuals to other people, and themselves, through technology. To this end, he has immersed himself in everything from the tools of data visualization and physical computing to the methodology of service design and cybernetics. His passion and skills were combined in the summer of 2011, when he joined Nike in Portland Oregon for a summer internship in the Digital Sport department. Cooper is a huge fan of data and what the stories that can be extracted from it, but more importantly, he's a proponent of the people who generate it.
