Karolina Maszkiewicz


Karolina Maszkiewicz is a designer and soon to be a shop owner who lives in Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles. When I first met her at the Closet Visit film screening, I knew I wanted to feature her. She's Polish and one of her dogs' name is Pepe (same as my dog!).

1.Describe your personal style.
Either totally androgynous, tomboyish, or all flirty and ladylike.
2. Who are your favorite designers?
Wren, literally every single skirt I own is Wren. Alexander Wang; Helmut Lang; Lanvin. Odilon, I have some really great and unique pieces from them, like their nude leather leggins. Riff, their leather pants are to die for.
3.What are your favorite places to shop?
Paris and NY are my destinations of choice. I could live in L'eclaireur if they'd let me. Also, there's so many unique alcoves and alleyways that provide unexpected gems.
4. Who are your style icons?
Kate Moss; Jane Birkin; Audrey Hepburn for her effortless classic chic style; Patti Smith, nobody wears men's clothes better.
5. Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Wrist watch (metal band for day, leather for evening), flats, cardigans, mens button-down shirts, anything short, anything high waisted. Jeffrey Campbell hiking boots that, to my surprise, work with everything. Wren mini skirts. And dresses that I'll design for myself that double as Weekend Lover's in-house brand Mé.

6. What is your most recent purchase?
Nude jazz shoes by Prada, with nude socks.
7.Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
My favorite is an Oscar de la Renta gold snake skin clutch, I bought it for $200 from a friends store on some insane discount. Leather pants by Riff that were a birthday gift, custom fit, they are priceless.
8.Can you give us smart shopping advice?
Buy only what you need. Sometimes what you need may surprise you though.
9.What's the best thing about your job?
I'm a designer, and come March the proprietor of the new retail store Weekend Lovers. It's a great creative outlet for me, and I love the idea of working with local designers in a collaborative way -- almost like a community co-op store. Giving back to my lovely city, LA; through providing a hub for designers, and a destination for shoppers.

10.Which beauty products do you recommend?
Chanel everything for makeup! StriVectin, and coconut cooking oil for dry skin. It's magic in a jar. Oh, and Scent Bar here in Los Angeles! It's a bar that's dedicated completely to the art of fragrance. You can always leave there with something absolutely yummy and absolutely you.

Friends. Travel. Canvas totes. Showers. Avocados.
