Each character, environment, mark, and symbol present in my work is part of a fictional realm I have created. This domain is not particular to any one location; rather, it represents the manipulation of truth and surrounding through the lens of one’s fear. Fear distorts and exaggerates perception. The scope of my work reads as a continuous narrative that demonstrates the relationship between our fear of the external environment and the affect this has on our individual subconscious. To communicate this connection, I produce a visual language that triggers a visceral response in the individual. My monsters incite fear and reflect our vulnerable condition. Each creature’s mutation represents the imperfection of humanity and impurity present today in our highly involved and fragmented civilization. A dense composition with bold color and thick line pushes forward towards the viewer eye and creates a sensation that is overwhelming to the participant. This feeling recreates the experience the human feels when faced with the challenge of existence in an exceedingly developed setting. This sensation leads to excitement and exhilaration. It is this emotion that appeals to our senses. An atmosphere that thrives on chaos creates a dynamic terrain for the audience to romp around in, but it can also swallow our humanity and cause desperation. My work communicates our moral frailty in the midst of environmental distress. In considering how both body and mind react to the imagery I present, I am able to ignite an emotional response that allows the viewer to experience the message being told.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT:

Hello, my name is Jacqueline Levine. I believe that art is universal and it is the artist's job to observe the challenges that face us and counteract them with a positive outlook that speaks to the community at large. For this project, I wish to bring my art and its message to different cities throughout the United States. As a society we have faced economic hardship, political tension, and devastating natural disaster. As a part of today's youth I face these challenges myself; as an artist I seek solutions to personal happiness through my work. I wish to remind the youth of today to remain optimistic and proud of their individual differences. It is these differences and a drive to be happy that will promote solutions to some of our most difficult societal issues. My work speaks to this--it is colorful, bold and strong. Each image is symbolic of an ongoing visual language that celebrates individuality and a love for life. The existence of this exhibition is an encouraging force that I hope will lift the spirits of some who could use a few colorful characters to brighten up their day. This project is an expansion of a local pop up exhibition model that I have employed several times successfully in my native DC. For this campaign, I will travel in an RV to select destination cities, installing pop up exhibitions in each urban area. At each location, a developer will be contacted and space on lease will be rented out for 3-4 days during which an opening and discussion panel about the show will be held for all attending members of the local community. The show will contain paintings, sculptures, cartoon books and merchandise on hand, ready to distribute to members of the audience. Everyone who attends will be able to walk out with some part of the work be it big or small. A website with information on dates and destination cities will be constructed prior to the project's launch. This project is ambitious, and so is the cost. This is where I need your help. I hope that your support can make this a reality. I have some amazing stuff I am offering in exchange and look forward to giving it to you. Thank you Kickstarter and to all of you who back this project.
