Set of books written by H.G Wells between 1900 and 1910. What differentiates these from most of Wells' work is that they are not science-fiction, and instead deal with issues ranging from socialism to the suffragette movement.
For each story, I identified a single visual element, which was then used on a dust-jacket to ‘wrap’ the entire book. This adds a dimension of theatre to ‘unwrapping’ the book and gives them a tactile quality.
The books have been designed to work well as a set, whilst remaining striking when seen on their own.

Love and Mr. Lewisham:
In the story, Mr. Lewisham and Ethel Henderson send each other love letters. I have therefore created a dust-jacket that folds over the pages to make an envelope that contains the book.
This is sealed with a hand-made wax seal with the letters ‘E.H’ – like a letter from Ethel Henderson to Mr. Lewisham.
Ann Veronica:
Ann Veronica stumbles into the suffragette movement, which inspired me to create a dust-jacket resembling a ladies’ coat with lapel and sealed with a lapel-badge.
The badge is like those worn at the time, and contains the suffragette colours of green, white and purple.
Kipps:
Artie Kipps inherits a large fortune and is propelled into high-society. Because of this, the book has been designed to resemble a cigar box, like those owned by wealthy gentleman of the time.
The dust-jacket wraps around to create a join which is sealed with a quality seal, as found on period Cuban cigar boxes.
