Motion Design
Title Sequence
Getting into motion design and animation in college, I wanted to create a title sequence from the start. With this piece for an After Effects class, I finally had the opportunity! Although at the time I didn’t have a friend shooting a film and I find recreating things that have already been done a bit cliche (aka for a Hollywood movie), a fake title sequence was in order. The film in this animation is imaginary, and the only real person credited is me.

In creating this piece, I was going for something fun, colorful, jazzy, and full of high-energy animation.

The music is "Rythme Gitan" by Latché Swing (jamendo.com/en/artist/latche_swing_(3)).

Rusalka: The Little Mermaid Story – Set Backdrop Motion Design Videos
This is one of 16 videos I made for the University of British Columbia’s production of Antonín Dvorák’s opera Rusalka: The Little Mermaid Story, February 9-12, 2012. The videos were projected onto the back of the set behind the stage. I made them in After Effects, using various effects and particles.

Created Using: Photoshop, After Effects
Date: 2012

Here's one of the videos, shortened a bit:

Here's the program (which I didn't design, but am credited as "Ali Gray: Motion Graphic Artist" on page 3!):

*Note: I did not photograph the image in the video above nor do I own it or any right to it. It was simply given to me by the client to use for the videos. Also, I did not design any part of this program, nor own any rights to it.

For more information on the opera, please view this article: http://wire.arts.ubc.ca/events/rusalka-the-little-mermaid-story/ (the "state of the art projection technology" mentioned refers to these videos).

Coffee Creation
I created the imagery for this piece from a photo of my coffee cup and a brick wall. Hours of masking and color correction later, you have my second animation ever!

Created Using: Camera, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects

Logo Build
This is a logo build I animated for one of my university After Effects classes. I didn’t design the logo, nor claim any rights to it, but I recreated it in Illustrator and later animated it in After Effects. In the animation, I wanted to convey the natural quality of the product, both in the animation itself (clean, smooth, growing, light) and the sound design (birds).

A World of Paint
This animation was inspired by the works of Jackson Pollock. It was one of my first projects using After Effects 3D and lights. I really wanted to explore depth and camera movement through a three-dimensional space. The audio is an excerpt from Coldplay's "Square One."

Bamboo
This is my first ever animation! I created the source material in Photoshop then animated it in After Effects. Pretty simple, but fun.

Enero
This was a collaborative in-class sound design exercise in one of my Media Arts classes. We were given a video with a few balloons blowing across a frozen lake and were asked to put sound to the video. My group made all the sound design from a single sound recording and altered the visuals to make them more interesting.

Frame of Physics
This was a project that was supposed to explore the physics of actual objects. I decided to go with the traditional bouncing ball, but in a fun, colorful way. It was one of my first animations using After Effects.
