Newspaper Burnings
Newspapers are filled with stories that depict real life happenings all around us. Sometimes a newspaper's two dimensional layout can make the reader feel removed and out of touch with what is actually taking place. In Lee's latest series of newspaper burnings he invites the reader into each story by capturing the emotions of those involved.
Lee has actually burned an image on top of the words of a news story. Some of Lee's images relate directly to the article they are burned upon. Some images are in direct contrast of the articles they are burned upon. Either way, the viewer is invited to take a part in the story.
All burnings are done free-hand using only a wood burning tool and a piece of newspaper. Lee uses the heated end of the tool to brown the newspaper until it reveals a particular image.
