My updated showreel of work from the duration of University as well as some personal projects.

This is my Final Major Project for my degree in Motion Graphics and Visual Effects. I chose to continue a filmic route in the style of my other shorts as this is an area that I would like to become even more proficient in.
I used the Canon 5D MkII with various lens.

Unseen before the film starts; a girl’s former lover has gone missing. Missing the person beyond belief she longs for a way to unify their love once more and join them. One day, unexplainably the girl receives a book detailing an old, strange ritual. Without understanding she reads the book to find it features maps and diagrams, but also a tale that describes a search for several lost items, each leading you to the next until the final item is found and the truth unveiled. The form, use and outcome of the final object are unknown. The only fragment of the mystery that is presented is the sentence ‘A thousand tears’ on the very first page.

With nothing in her life remaining she sets out to find these items and an unknown fate.

A girl living a normal life meets an unexpected and unusually ill fate. Something unknown, perharps a curse taints the water that is consumed everyday.

Taking place in the later development of the effects of this contamination, the lead developes a visceral and relentless thirst. As this thirst developes her behaviour become abnormal, obsessive and delusional to portray the effects of this poisoning. This takes place in the form of gathering unsual rescources of water, such as mass bottles along with the unconcious consumption of excsesive levels to which the body would not usually
require.

A key factor in the growth of this disorder is the sound of a dripping tap. A reptetive and constant echo, almost torturous in nature, driving this character to a loss of sanity.

Reaching the ultimate point of this thirst, the lead will seek a vast source of water with the intent to consume it.

一人: 東京の夏 (Hitori: Tōkyō No Natsu). Hitori itself translates as alone, one person or oneself.


This was my second time in Tokyo and unlike the last trip I had the means to shoot footage. I chose to keep things simple to portray how the week unfolded. Admittedly there are some bad shots due to exposure issues but I decided to keep these as I felt they are just as important as the others. The sky was an over cast nightmare due to typhoon season and not being able to avoid the 12 - 3 midday sun. If anyone is interested in locations just ask. Everything was shot on the 550D using the kit 18-55 and a Sigma f/ 1.4 28mm. Edited and graded in AE.

Previously affected by something unseen in the film, a female role unwillingly progresses on a path to misery, caused by overwhelming isolation. While these emotions are not fully developed to start, conscience and reasoning are still present within her. This conscience plays a role in keeping her together and as the tale progresses,it begins to diminish,later unveiling the progression of the narrative. Once reasoning is fully abandoned, strong emotions overpower her. Feelings of melancholy engulf her and she reaches a point of no will.

The progression from her state of mind being influenced by her conscience, to reaching a point of visceral melancholy, is represented by visits to the forest. These are brief and exploratory at first, progressing to the final and last visit; the end.

The inspiration for this piece was taken from Japanese Yūrei (ghost) inspired Ukiyo-e prints and stories. Also accounts I read over the summer of Aokigahara. To those who don’t know Aokigahara is situated at the base of Mt. Fuji and has been nicknamed the suicide forest.

All filmes on the Canon 550D with a Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Graded and edited in After Effects.
