Jonathan Lockwood is an Artist from South East London. He works in different medias usually in a time critical context.
Currently he is working on his box walk project. The box walks began in 1999 after leaving art college. He designed this box like a portable studio or representation of a home space. It had to be designed in a functional way and had to embody Jonathan's concept of capturing his actions rather than framing the subject. He defined this art as box walks and set about documenting his movements from his box companion. The box itself has been designed to echo the tv or movie screen yet include a space in between.
The box walks began again in April 2010 when he realised his Apple 3G iPhone was perfect for creating these pieces. The walks can now be viewed live on-line or on-demand and using the phones GPS the viewer can see exactly where and when the walk takes place. Older walks can be seen on www.14-15-77.com from Poland, Himalayas, Singapore, USA...
The first new series of Box Walks (April 2010) have taken place at the recent Sensorium exhibition run by Joy of Sound.www.joyofsound.net
The next series will be part of the Brockley Max festival running from 28th April - 6th June 2010. Jonathan will be doing 2 walks a day (7am & 7pm) down roads beginning with B.
Jonathan's other recent works have included billboard sized drawings on the front windows of recently closed high street shops. Each set of drawings representing a comic strip leaves his own interpretation of the changes on the local high street.
Jonathan maps this development in an understated accessible way leaving the viewer effected and wanting more.
